As an organization, Midland Credit Management (MCM), remains committed to developing resilient and sustainable communities by supporting the most critical needs where we live and work. In India, where MCM is home to nearly 3,000 colleagues, the company identified two critical developmental areas for its immediate communities – formal school education and environment conservation.
Over the last several years, MCM has supported education for more than 245 underprivileged children in India, in association with Rainbow Foundation India, its long-standing charity partner. In 2021, informed by feedback from employees, MCM in India embarked upon its first water and biodiversity restoration project in the Aravalli Wasteland region in the Haryana state. In collaboration with its non-profit partner, iamgurgaon, the company focused on cleaning and greening 21 acres of wastelands, with a view to allow better harvesting of rainwater and positively impacting the groundwater table.
Since then, the site has sprung up as a green lung for the community at large and has several picnic spots and seating arrangements, all made from locally available eco-friendly construction material. It is a matter of great honor for the company that recently this site was inaugurated by Haryana’s Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, and several distinguished guests, in the presence of corporate luminaries and members of the media.
In October 2023, this first environment project by MCM was also recognized at the Indian Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards and awarded the ‘Best Water Preservation Initiative of the Year’. The Indian CSR Awards commend organizations for their exceptional contributions in the fields of education, healthcare, environment, and women empowerment, aiming to inspire and motivate corporate entities in India to engage in impactful community endeavors.
Gaurav Bhalla, Founder of the Indian CSR Awards, reflecting on MCM’s accomplishment, said, “The Indian CSR Awards aim to inspire Indian companies to undertake profoundly impactful CSR initiatives that benefit both society and the environment. When evaluating MCM’s submission, our jury was truly impressed by the extensive scope of their CSR activities.
Thanks to MCM’s dedication, a verdant oasis now thrives in the heart of Gurugram, transforming the surrounding landscape. We hope this recognition propels MCM to embark on even more ambitious CSR projects.”
Jaison Thomas, Managing Director, MCM India, emphasized the importance of CSR within the company’s Mission, Vision, & Values (MVV), stating, “All our CSR programs are designed to serve the vulnerable sections of our community, and foster care and inclusion. Our endeavor is to ensure that our immediate communities have access to basic needs like education, clean air, and water. Therefore, everything we do is based on community need assessment and developed to deliver sustainable impact. Furthermore, I am proud to share that all our community initiatives are supported by our employee volunteers who always step up to donate their time and resources to each project.”
MCM’s partnership with iamgurgaon, a community-driven initiative dedicated to reclaiming Gurugram’s green spaces lost to urbanization, has played a pivotal role in this success story. Reflecting on this milestone win, Latika Thukral, Co-Founder of iamgurgaon, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I appreciate MCM’s support in revitalizing the Sikanderpur forest nestled within the Aravalli Mountain range. Through our collective efforts, the once-polluted water bodies have again become home to marine life, while the forests are greener and bustling with critter population and birds; iamgurgaon is excited to have created yet another biodiversity haven in the Aravalli region.”
